Mary Ann Papp, 85, of South Third Street, Niles, died at 1:33 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011, at Memorial Hospital, South Bend following a brief illness.
She was born March 5, 1926, in Niles to Russell K. and Wilma E. (Zimmer) Berg. She graduated from Niles High School and lived here all of her life. She had been employed at the former Village Lamp Shop in Roseland, Ind., and had been previously employed at Associates Finance.
Mary Ann was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Niles. She was a Niles Township election official and enjoyed working out at the Curves women’s gym.
She married George Papp on Dec. 27, 1945, in Niles. He preceded her in death on Oct. 9, 2006.
Mrs. Papp is survived by her daughters, Linda Sue Fish of Niles and Ann Marie Luczak of Redondo Beach, Calif.; step-grandchildren, Dana and David Fish; brother, Robert Berg of Prescott, Wis.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family of Mary Ann Papp will receive friends and relatives beginning at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, at Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles and will conclude with the recitation of the Rosary at noon by the Rev. David Otto of St. Mary Catholic Church.
Contributions in memory of Mary Ann may be made to The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals or for Masses at St. Mary Catholic Church.
