Virginia Haviland, 94, died at 9:45 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011 at West Woods of Niles following a brief illness.
She was born Aug. 21, 1917 in Niles to Herman Wurz and Pearl (Linzbach) Wurz. She graduated from Niles High School in 1937 and was a lifetime area resident.
As a young lady she was a fashion model in Chicago.
Virginia was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Niles. She often attended worship at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart at Notre Dame, Ind. She volunteered at Pawating (now Lakeland) Hospital in Niles, St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in South Bend and with the American Red Cross in Niles.
Virginia enjoyed arts and crafts, knitting and gardening.
She married Herman R. Haviland on June 12, 1948 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Niles. He died Jan. 1, 2005.
She was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Lucille Carey, who died Dec. 23, 2005.
She is survived by a brother, C. Richard Wurz of Niles, and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Niles with the Rev. David Otto of the church officiating.
Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Niles.
Friends may call beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the church.
