Problems associated with nuclear waste will be discussed in a forum from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Cass District Library on M-62 in Cassopolis.
The storage of nuclear waste has risen to the forefront of discussions following the earthquakes in Japan and Virginia.
The forum will be led by Mary Olson, a 20-year staffer at the Nuclear Information and Resource Service, which focuses on nuclear waste policy.
A national site for a nuclear waste dump at Yucca Mountain (a bill originally sponsored by Fred Upton) has failed.
As a result, tons of waste are sitting at reactors sites throughout the country, including Palisades.
Olson is traveling Michigan to talk about the next phase of waste policy, as well as other nuclear issues including the impact of radiation on health.
