Bobcats come up a point short

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — The Brandywine tennis team came up a point short of qualifying for the Division IV state finals Thursday afternoon at Leeper Park.

Kalamazoo Christian was the regional champion with 28 points. Paw Paw was second with 17 points, while Brandywine finished third with 16.

The top two teams advance, along with any team that scores 18 or more points.

Kalamazoo Hackett was third with 13 points, while Berrien Springs (9), host Bridgman (7), South Haven (1) and Coloma (0) rounded out the order of finish.

The Bobcats did have a pair of regional champions.

Tanner Bourdon and Chance Smith defeated Nathan Huggett and Chris Lyons of Paw Paw 3-6, 6-3 and 6-1 to capture the No. 2 doubles championship.

Teammates Nick Wright and Stuart Pearman were the champions at No. 4 doubles with a 6-3 and 6-4 victory over Ted Schering and Andrew Long of Kalamazoo Christian.
