Herb Teichman to receive NWS’ highest award

SYRACUSE, INd. — Herbert Teichman has been awarded the highest honor there is for a cooperative weather observer, The Thomas Jefferson Award, for his service as a volunteer Cooperative Weather Observer (COOP) in Eau Claire.
Teichman has been selected to receive the Thomas Jefferson award from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA) and the National Weather Service (NWS).
The Cooperative Weather Observer Program was established in the 1890s to provide data to the newly formed Weather Bureau, predecessor to the NWS.
Today, the program involves more than 11,000 volunteer observers, who record temperature and precipitation data daily.
The ceremony honoring the Dowagiac graduate will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, at Tree-Mendus Fruit Farm, 9351 E. Eureka Road, Eau Claire.
