Inaugural MPIA tourney a success

The Inaugural Millpond Improvement Association Multi Species Fundraising Fishing Tournament raised nearly $1,300 recently.

According to tournament director Rick O’Konski and MPIA vice president Don Wolford, the tournament drew plenty of participants thanks to its sponsors, donors, volunteers and good weather.

The tournament raised $1,275 which will go toward the upkeep of the pond, dam maintenance and inspection fees.

Winners in the various categories were:

Longest bluegill — winners Randy Ahonen Sr. and Randy Ahonen Jr. — were awarded $100. The winning fish measured seven inches.

Longest crappie — winners Jason Keen and Tobin Thomas, along with Nathan Wilson and Chad Lovell — were awarded $100. The winning fish measured 10 and 11/16th inches.

Largest combined weight of five bass — winners Dennis Ferrier Jr. and Jeffrey Davies — were awarded $100. The winning weight was 6.8 pounds.

Largest combined weight of carp — winners Tyler Wade and Jacob Nolke — were awarded $100. The winning weight was 42 pounds.

Plans for next year’s tournament are already under way.
