Ruth B. Horney, 82, of Allouez Drive in Niles, died at 11 a.m. Friday, July 15, 2011 at Brentwood Assisted Living in Niles following an extended illness.
She was born on April 7, 1929 in Circleville, Ohio to Elzie R. and Fannie M. (Rowe) Brooks and graduated from Jackson High School in Circleville.
She has lived in Niles on Allouez Drive since 1960.
Ruth was employed in the office of the former Pawating Hospital, now Lakeland, for 20 years, retiring in 1994.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Buchanan and of the Niles Civitan Club and the Niles Association for Exceptional Citizens (NAFEC).
She enjoyed playing euchre and golf and reading novels. She also enjoyed attending the theater for plays and musicals and traveling throughout the United States, but her greatest joy was her family, especially her grandchildren.
On May 3, 1952 in Warwick, Rhode Island, she married Allen A. Horney who preceded her in death on Aug. 9, 1989.
Surviving family includes their daughters, Beverley (Jim) Newburn of Hastings, Iowa and Carolyn (George) Ernsperger, Jr. of Niles; grandchildren, Jacob Andrew Ernsperger, Ian Anthony Ernsperger, Cassandra Leigh McVay and Hannah Ruth McVay; and Ruth’s brother, Robert Elzie Brooks of Niles.
The funeral service for Ruth B. Horney will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 19 at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles with the Rev. Dr. Patricia Ramsden of the First Presbyterian Church of Buchanan officiating.
Committal rites will follow at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens in Niles.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
