CASSOPOLIS — Cass County Sheriff Joseph Underwood reports one person was arrested and two other juveniles will be petitioned into Cass County Family Court after sheriff’s deputies recovered four stolen personal watercraft (PWC).

On July 3, deputies were called to Paradise Lake near Vandalia when an off-duty Cass County Sheriff’s Office dispatcher observed what he believed to be a PWC in use that had been stolen the night  before (July 2) from Diamond Lake near Cassopolis.

Deputies were able to detain the subject who had possession of the PWC and identified him as Jaylin Lawson, 17, of Cassopolis.

Officers also discovered in his possession another stolen PWC and a trailer which had been stolen June 4 from Diamond Lake.

An investigation by detectives and deputies then discovered evidence that along with Lawson, two juveniles (ages 15 and 16) from the Cassopolis area had been involved in stealing the PWCs.

A total of four personal watercraft had been taken since June 2.

All have been recovered.

Lawson was arrested  and lodged in the Cass County Jail July 3 for felony larceny and bonded out on July 5 on a $3,000 cash or surety bond after arraignment in Cass County Fourth District Court.

The two juveniles were released to their parents and are being petitioned in Cass County Family Court.
