We need more patriotism

Dear editor:

What a parallel to today’s leadership. The Bible has all the answers, believe it or not.
Isaiah 56:10-12 talks about the leadership between 712 BC and 698 BC.
Wow! The more some things change, the more they remain the same. I’m using the King James Version, although the other versions read basically the same way. Let’s read it.
They talk about the Church being distressed by the blind watchmen (meaning shepherds of that time in history).  This bespeaks of spiritual blindness, ignorance of God, spiritual slumber, sloth, greed, selfishness and unfaithful ministers of social justice.
OK, here is the Word of God:
“His watchmen are blind, they are all ignorant, they all are dumb dogs, they cannot bark (sleeping, lying down, loving to slumber). Yea they are greedy dogs that can never have enough and they are shepherds that cannot understand (they all look to their own way, everyone for his gain, from his quarter). Come ye say they, I will fetch wine and we will fill ourselves with strong drink; and tomorrow shall be as this day and much more abundant.”
One quote in the Living Bible says it this way, “Let’s all get drunk, this is really living.” Well they are drunk all right, drunk with power and blind to the damage being done.
I have one statement to make and I make it sincerely. It behooves all who trust and believe in the Lord God and profess to follow him to be on their knees praying for our misled leadership of today.
Now let me add one more thought. Many people take for granted the good examples of leadership in our country. I refer you to the article in the Tribune on May 26 titled “K & M Scholarship.” K & M is a machine fabricating company in Cassopolis. I have never worked there and I don’t know the founder, Mr. Earl Marhanka, but this company and the attitude it has is the kind of patriotism that helped build a strong America. They share the profits and share with the community and students with gifts and scholarships. My hat is off to K & M. Thank you for being a good American company and not an unpatriotic coward that runs overseas to get out of paying their fair share.
We need more of your kind in our beloved country. Those who have fought and paid the supreme sacrifice deserve your kind of businesses in our own land. People in the past deserved better and so do we in this day and age.
