INDIANAPOLIS – As the race approached the final 50 laps, rookie JR Hildebrand took the race lead for the second time in the race.
Unfortunately, he had to give up the lead to pit and Dario Franchitti reclaimed the top spot at lap 141.
Pole sitter Alex Tagliani, a feel-good story the entire month of May, ran out of miracles on Sunday, and with 142 laps showing on the board, he found himself a lap down.
At lap 147, the race game to an end for Tagliani as he hit the wall.
With 53 laps remaining in the race, Franchitti had opened up nearly a 10 second lead on his teammate Scott Dixon. The yellow flag, however, will bunch the field back up and force another double file restart.
The remaining members of the top five as the race reached 50 laps remaining were Oriol Servia, Dan Wheldon and Marco Andretti.
