All-State golfer Chris Noble of Niles will continue his career at Holy Cross in Notre Dame, Ind.
Noble signed a National Letter of Intent with Holy Cross last week with the school and will begin competition in the fall.
The Niles standout is a two-time regional champion (2009-10) and has been named both all-state and academic all-state by the Michigan Interscholastic Golf Coaches Association twice. As a freshman, Noble was honorable mention all-state.
Noble has been named captain of the Viking golf team three times and was district medalist last spring. He won a total of seven tournaments in 2010 and was eight out of 65 playes at the USGA Boys Junior Amateur Qualifier at Cascade Hills Country Club in Grand Rapids.
Noble is a two-time winner of the Roy Brawley Golf Award for excellence in golf and the classroom. Last year he was also awarded the Steven N. Tyler Award for his efforts in the classroom and on the golf course. He is also a member of the National Honor Society.
“I’m very excited to have Chris be a part of the men’s golf team this fall,” said Holy Cross coach Tim Holt. “We made a lot of strides this season and Chris will be a big reason that we’re able to take the next step and win the CCAC conference and advance to the NAIA National Championships next year in Oregon.”
The Saints, who are a member of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference, finished second behind the Univesity of St. Francis (Ill.). Holy Cross finished in the top three in nine of the 10 tournaments it competed during the 2010-11 season.
This season, Noble was the Big 16 Conference West Division medalist with a stroke average of 36.8. He also finished third in the league tournament, which concluded on Monday.
Noble and the rest of the Vikings will begin post season play Thursday in the Division 2 District event at Milham Park Golf Course in Kalamazoo.
Noble has not finished below 10th place in any of the tournaments that Niles has competed in this season.
