Sullivan, Zebell elected to BOE

Union High signDowagiac Union School District voters on Tuesday elected Ronda Sullivan and Claudia Zebell to the Board of Education.

With all five precincts reported, Sullivan had tallied 351 ballots and Zebell 329 for four-year positions succeeding incumbents Randy Cuthbert and Sherry File, who did not seek re-election.

Dowagiac’s operating millage renewal proposal passed, 304 yes to 125 no.

Sullivan, a DUHS graduate, manages McDonald’s Dowagiac store and has sons at Dowagiac Middle School and at Patrick Hamilton.

Zebell, a mother of three who has lived in Dowagiac for 11 years, grew up in New Jersey and taught for 16 years.

Cassopolis had three full positions and a partial term to fill.

Scott R. Ward tallied 274; Jeremy Carlisle, 270; Jason A. Pompey, 219; and Charlene Lee, 165, for the full position.

Christine Locke garnered 173 votes for a partial position, to 122 for Sara E. Bullocks and 42 for Katherine Lilley.

Decatur elected Laurie Southworth with nine and Joan Grosvenor with six for two school board seats.

In Marcellus, Darcie L. Walden won the seat with 151 votes, to 86 for Becky Garcia; 80 for Steve Hartline; and 69 for Fred Sibley. Marcellus also gained approval for its operating millage renewal proposal, 298 yes to 88 no.

Edwardsburg elected Birdella Holdread (317) and John H. Feil (302) to two full positions on the school board.

Edwardsburg’s operating millage renewal proposal carried, 278 yes to 97 no.
