Albert L. “Al” Cronkright, 69, of Missions East, Niles and formerly of Goodrich, Mich., died at 9:47 p.m. Monday, April 18, 2011 at his home following an extended illness.
He was born Feb. 14, 1942 in Flint, Mich. to Harold T. Cronkright and Laura M. (Vorce) Cronkright. He graduated from Bendle High School in Burton, Mich. and recently came to Niles to be near family.
Al worked in Fisher Body No. 1 and Buick City, both in Flint, for 37 years, retiring in 1998. He was a member of Davison Missionary Church in Davison and First Missionary Church in Niles. He was a member of Servants on Wheels Ever Ready (SOWERS), Christian Volunteers with RVs and the Flint Camera Club, taking photographs of weddings and nature.
He was a beekeeper and had more than 300 hives. He enjoyed camping and fishing with his family.
Albert married Sharon L. (Davis) Cronkright on March 12, 1966 in Flint, Mich. She survives.
He is also survived by a daughter, Brenda (Bill) Shepard of Stevensville; a son, Gregory (Lisa) Cronkright of Wakarusa, Ind.; grandchildren, Kristen Shepard, Caitlin Shepard, Justin Shepard, Tyler Cronkright, Chloe Cronkright and Paige Cronkright; a sister, Janet Elliott of Davison, Mich.; and Sharon’s sister, Kathy (David) Hilgendorf of Dafter, Mich.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 22 at Davison Missionary Church in Davison, Mich. with the Rev. Allen Sudmann of Davison Missionary Church officiating.
Burial will be at Crestwood Cemetery in Grand Blanc, Mich.
Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Swartz Funeral Home on Hill Road in Grand Blanc.
