Niles Township to improve sidewalks

Niles Township will continue its effort to repair deteriorating sidewalks this year.

The township board unanimously passed a resolution at Monday’s meeting to allow Building Inspector Jeff Dunlap to advertise for bids for improvements to sidewalks near Oak Manor. The township will accept bids until May 16.

The sidewalk repair program began last year with work done at Fulkerson Park. The project is being done at no cost to taxpayers. It is funded by the township’s metro fund that gets revenue from cable TV fees.

Clerk Marge Durm-Hiatt said the township has budgeted for about $10,000 in sidewalk repairs this year.
