Terry Ferguson, 69 / July 3, 1941 — Jan. 3, 2011

Terry H. Ferguson, 69, of Dowagiac, passed away on Monday, Jan. 3, 2011 in Berrien Springs.

Terry’s life began July 3, 1941 in Dowagiac, the son of Harmon L. and Helen (Harmon) Ferguson. He was a 1959 graduate of Dowagiac Central High School and attended Lake Michigan College. Terry was united in marriage to Sharilyn Chapman on Sept. 29, 1963 in Dowagiac.

He was employed by American Electric Power for 38 years as a lineman and started his career working for the power plant in the City of Dowagiac. Terry loved to coach youth baseball and Rocket football. He continued to coach even after his children outgrew the programs. He was a fisherman and loved to play golf. Terry was proud of his yard and especially his beautiful flowers.

His loving family includes his children, Todd (Kimberly) Ferguson of Paragould, Ariz., Tamera L. O’Brien of Dowagiac and Timothy (LaTonia) Ferguson of Mishawaka; grandchildren, DeAnna Souers, Aaron Ferguson, Andrew Ferguson, Nathan Ferguson, Brent O’Brien, Brittany O’Brien, Brady O’Brien and Timothy Harmon, Jr.; two great-grandchildren, McKenzie Souers and Aiden Souers; sister, Sally (Jim) Closson of Cassopolis; father-in-law, Keith Chapman of Kalamazoo; and brother-in-law, Barrie (Pam) Chapman of Portage.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Sharilyn, in 2008.

Terry’s family will gather with friends Friday from noon to 2 p.m. at Yazel & Clark Chapel, where his funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, led by Pastor Jon Den Houter of the First Christian Church.

He will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery following the service.
