Realizing a little something about big money

Dear editor:
I made a major redecision today. I no longer believed there was a bloodless coup of the United States government by Big Money during the George W. Bush years. I realized during a moment of deep analysis today that Big Money understands that it cannot completely overthrow the government and/or make government bend to its single-minded desire: to make hoards and hoards of money, so help me God.
A Democrat will be elected to the presidency from time to time. This Big Money understands. But Big Money knows how it can begin the process of destroying a Democratic president even before he/she takes the oath of office.
Care for a sample? How about “Obama the anti-Christ?” or “Obama the Muslim Kenyan?”
How about Bill and Hillary murdering Vince Foster because “he knew too much?”
Big Money treats Democratic presidents as mere annoyances. Worse, perhaps, they see reformers as a slight downturn in their pursuit of more money.
Soon, they say, there will be a Republican president and all will be well — for them.
I doubt now that they don’t even want full control of the U.S. government. Much too messy. Much too obvious. Open to a blockbuster expose by investigatory journalists, who still exist, by the way.
This is not a serious problem for Big Money. Now with Fox News, Rush and Beck, and an Internet full of websites like “Red, White and Blue News,” Big Money can perform the old Green Bay Packer Sweep, or an end run around legitimate news outlets. They now have all they need to control the thoughts of tens of millions of those who form its base. It also helps to conduct an effective attack on legitimate news sources. Big Money’s tact is clear: delegitimize real journalism by denigrating the entire profession as Main Street Media” then open the door to “Red, White and Blue News,” and fake Fox News and allow their legions to pour through.
There they remain isolated in a protective news bubble. No news from CBS, or NBC or any legitimate newspaper is allowed to filter through the protective shield. If truth does happen to breach the barrier, alarms go off and the Karl Rovians go to work to stomp it to death, in a process known as “swift boating.”
