Knitting 101 offered in four sessions

As a response to numerous requests, Dowagiac District Library will offer Knitting 101 in four sessions: Sept. 23, Oct. 28, Nov. 18 and Dec. 16, all at 6:30-8 p.m. and all free of charge.
Instructor Alicia Flores will provide her kind and capable expertise.
Mrs. Flores began her craft nine years ago at her public library in South Bend, Ind.
She not only mastered knitting, but became adept at teaching it as well.
She has become a fiber aficionada by learning how to take the raw materials (i.e. wool, cotton, flax) and spin her own yarn.
“Each of us is a perpetual learner, even if we are not in a classroom,” states Flores.
And it’s clear she lives by that tenet.
She continues to learn all she can about knitting by refining different stitches, shortcuts and the combinations that make each item unique.
“Nearly anyone can knit and it doesn’t require much money at all to get started. One can even make their own knitting needles with a pair of small dowel rods and a pencil sharpener!” she quipped.
Prospective participants in this class need not be concerned about equipping themselves before the first session.
Beginning knitting kits and instruction booklets written by Mrs. Flores will be available for checkout during class times.
Practice yarn and needles will be included in the kits, or attendees may bring their own beginner’s supplies.
Dowagiac District Library is located at 211 Commercial St. in Dowagiac.
