CASSOPOLIS – Cass County Road Commission employees are particularly happy to see the stormy month of June come to a close.
Road Commission crews are on call on a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week basis.
June 18 they responded to 40 calls for trees down across roads.
Since many of these calls were for multiple trees, more than 100 trees were cleared that night alone.
While this was a particularly bad storm, the CCRC has been responding to downed trees on a daily basis.
“Crews have been receiving a tremendous amount of help from the homeowners, but it still has been a costly endeavor,” said Louis Csokasy, road commission manager.
“The CCRC spent $74,885 in extra expenses on storm tree removal in just the month of June.
“This is monies we would have preferred to spend on maintenance or construction, but just like snowstorms in the winter, the road commission has to respond to what Mother Nature throws at us.”
