The Minority Coalition of Cass County invites the public to a Juneteenth celebration on Saturday, June 19, from noon to 3 p.m.

The picnic-style family celebration will take place at the Calvin Township Hall, 18727 Mount Zion St., Cassopolis.

The Rev. Donnie Walker Sr. will speak on freedom and family.

He will be examining the concept of fatherhood from slavery up until today.  The Rev. Walker is pastor of the Church of Three Rivers and the father of four.

The soul food picnic includes a fish fry, grilled chicken, cole slaw, spaghetti, black-eyed peas, macaroni and cheese, cabbage and string beans with white potatoes.

Pies and cake are being donated by area churches.

The event is free, though donations are appreciated. Call Elsie Randles at (269) 476-9337 to donate or for more information.
