The economy is still unstable, we have a huge oil leak in the Gulf, people are struggling with debt and what are some congressmen talking about?

College football conference realignment.

Are you kidding?

Stick to the important things. Try to get the oil spill cleaned up. Make the economy better and help normal people with their financial troubles instead of giving money to the fat cats on Wall Street.

Let college football issues handle themselves.

The ball is beginning to roll as Colorado has officially left the Big 12 and is headed to the Pac-10.

Nebraska could be heading to the Big 10 as soon as today.

This surely will be the demise of the Big 12, but how that will affect those areas of the country have yet to be seen.

Yet in Washington, people like Iowa Sen. Charles Grassley are all stirred up and are vowing to block these changes.

Grassley said that “he and other lawmakers” were going to look into ways to delay or stop conference realignment.

Get over yourself. It’s just sports. It may be “big time” college football, but it’s still just a game.

Worry about the important things that can make our country better and make it better for those who live in it.

Yes there will be some economic changes in those states directly affected by conference realignment, but who’s to say it will adversely affect those states?

We think everyone is jumping the gun here.

Change is good in some instances. But only time will tell if these changes will be good or bad for college sports and the communities those schools are located in.

If congress wants to get involved at the collegiate level, then figure out a way to make it possible for every child to attend college that wants to. Then they would be doing something.

If you want to look into a way to keep drugs out of the athletic arena we are all for that.
But keep your noses out of this one.

It seems as if the college football landscape is heading toward four “mega” conferences. If that happens, it could bring us a step closer to a national tournament.

We would be all for that.

But for now, everyone take a deep breath, and a step back and let’s see how it all plays out before getting our collective noses out of joint.
