PAW PAW – Desiree Humphre scored all three goals as host Paw Paw edged Dowagiac 3-1 Tuesday night in the final Wolverine Conference match of the year for the Chieftains.

Humphre scored both first half goals as the Redskins grabbed a 2-0 halftime advantage.

Humphre scored in the 29th and 38th minutes of the opening half and then made it a 3-0 match in the 58th minute.

The Chieftains averted the shutout when Bre Williams scored off an assist from Morgan Tanzillo in the 68th minute.

“The heat definitely made an impact,” Dowagiac coach Mike Williams said. “We only had two subs and they had six. I had to drop down two varsity players to the JV or they wouldn’t have had enough to play because of a band competition. We were thirsty a lot.”
Dowagiac also lost the JV match to Paw Paw, 7-0.

The Redskins led 1-0 at halftime.

Paw Paw outshot Dowagiac 17-0 in the match.

“We played down a player the whole game, but the girls still worked very hard,” Dowagiac coach Justin Rose said. “We were able to hold them during the first half, but we just ran out of gas.”
