CASSOPOLIS — Cassopolis High School head football coach Andy Hubbard resigned last night at a Cassopolis Public School board meeting.

Hubbard, who had been the coach for the Rangers for the past five years, addressed the board during the citizens’ comments portion of the meeting, expressing his disappointment with the way the board has gone about making decisions on district budget cuts.

“Not once has the community been able to give input,” he said.

He also said he was not pleased with proposals of eliminating staff positions when “we are so administration heavy.”

Hubbard also said he was upset with the way the administration handled the firing of an assistant football coach at the beginning of last season, when the school waited until a couple weeks into summer practices to notify him.

He concluded by saying the administration has “stolen my passion for football.”

“I can no longer stand by and watch administrators destroy my program,” he said before storming out of the meeting.

Hubbard led the Rangers to a 6-4 record last season. In his career at Cassopolis, he compiled a record of 35-16 and led the Rangers to four consecutive playoff appearances. He helped turn around a program that was 13-34 between 2000 and 2004.
