Ronald Ashley, 84, of Dowagiac, passed away on Friday, Dec. 18, 2009, at Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital in Dowagiac.

Ronald’s life began on July 25, 1925, in South Bend, Ind., the son of Orville H. and Ruth I. (Otstot) Ashley.

He was a graduate of Niles High School in 1943.

Ronald served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was united in marriage to the former Phyllis Shaner in 1946.

He was a self-employed tool and die designer.

Ronald had been a 4-H leader and attended the Apostolic Lighthouse Church.

He loved being outdoors and enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Ronald’s loving family includes: his children, Bruce (Elaine) Ashley of Florida, Carl (Chris) Ashley of Branch, Mich., Ross (Debra) Ashley of Dowagiac and Rhonda (John) Weiser of Niles; 12 grandchildren; brothers, Tom Ashley of Dowagiac and Hank (Janet) Ashley of North Fort Myers, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

Ronald is preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Ashley, in 1976.

His family will gather with friends on Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Yazel and Clark Chapel, where his funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. led by Pastor Gerald Bushnell of the Apostolic Lighthouse Church.
