Music, movie and Model ‘T’s

With a weather forecast of temperatures reaching up toward the 90s with plenty of sun this weekend, if baking on the beach seems a little daunting, there are plenty of events going on around Niles for those who want to get out and enjoy the sun as well as a few that will offer a reprieve from the heat.
Things kick off with a feast for the ears at The Paris Soda Shop.
The Main Street eatery will host a live performance by former ‘About Face’ vocalist, singer Denise Williams tonight from 7 to 9 p.m.
Today is also the end of the Friday’s, 2009 Movies in the Park season.
The final film being shown in Riverfront Park behind the Wonderland Theater is “Night at the Museum 2” starring Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Robin Williams and Amy Adams.
Vintage automobile enthusiasts will want to make their way downtown on Saturday for a special visit by the Michigan Model ‘T’ Jamboree.
Over 100 Model ‘T’ automobiles are scheduled to make a stop in Niles, arriving around 10:30 a.m., staying in town until around 2:30 p.m.
Parking along Main Street will be designated for those visiting members of the vintage automobile group.
Shoppers will want to make a trip out to the Niles Industrial Park on Saturday as one of Niles’ own businesses offers up its products at “phenomenal” prices.
French Paper – “America’s family run paper mill” – will hold a truckload crafters sale Saturday at the Industrial Park, 1919 Industrial Drive, between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.
The company, which has been producing quality and specialty papers, envelopes, stationary and craft paper will offer paper packs for scrap books, gift wrap, paper, envelopes note cards and more of their products.
Hourly drawings will also be held for free prizes.
On Sunday, the summer concert series at the Niles Riverfront Park Amphitheater will feature a performance by Barry and Holly Tashian.
The Tashians, recording artists and touring musicians with seven albums under their belt boast an impressive career which includes songwriting for artists including Kenny Rogers, Ty England and The Nashville Bluegrass Band among others.
According to the duo’s website, Barry Tashian played as a member of Emmylou Harris’ Hot Band and the two have recorded with artists including Suzy Bogguss, Delia Bell, Iris DeMent, Nanci Griffith, Charlie Louvin and Tom Paxton.
Opening acts take the stage at 6 p.m. with the main concert starting at 7 p.m. All concerts for the Niles Summer Concert Series are free and open to the public.
And don’t forget to keep an eye open for the flamingos that have popped up all over downtown Niles. Take part in the search for 100 specially decorated pink flamingos and take a chance at winning Downtown Niles Dollars.
