It’s tournament time for our area youth baseball and softball teams.
The Little League Michigan District 15 tournaments are being played throughout Southwest lower Michigan.
Brandywine and Howard Township are hosting the Cal Ripken State Tournaments for ages 11- and 9-year-olds respectively this weekend.
The annual Eaton Park Invitational also got under way Thursday night, so area sports fans have plenty of opportunities to get out and support their favorite teams.
Play in the Cal Ripken tournaments begins this afternoon at 4 p.m. out at Pepper Martin Park and 6 p.m. at Firemen’s Park.
Play will continue throughout the weekend.
The Little League district tournaments continue tonight and well into next week as teams attempt to qualify for section and state competition.
To keep up with the Little League district tournaments, go to www. eteamz.com/midistrict15/news/index.cfm?.
This site lists scores from previous games as well as updated brackets to let you know where your favorite team plays next.
Eaton Park also has a web site. You can follow the scores, standings in each division and get a schedule of upcoming games at www. nlbsa.com/allstars/baseball_tourney.asp.
This is a great time of year for youth sports. The emotion these young athletes display in a lot of fun to watch and can certainly take your mind off of some of the issues we all face in our normal lives.
So get out there and take in a game or two. There are several local tournaments you can take in this weekend and in the coming weeks.
