Friday, June 12
9 a.m. – Liberty Chapel rummage sale today and Saturday, June 13, until 6 p.m. at 112 N. Mill St., near old Lincoln School. For further information, contact Judy Saylor at 782-9831.
9 a.m. – Giant rummage sale at Grace Christian School today and Saturday, June 13, until 5 p.m. Bag sale on Saturday at 2 p.m. Grace Christian is located four miles south of Watervliet on M-140. The sale includes furniture, antiques, tools, holiday items, sports equipment, computers, bikes, baby items, toys, kitchen and household items, clothing and crafts. More than 100 families donate items for the sale. All proceeds help keep tuition low at Grace Christian, a preschool-12th grade non-denominational, evangelical school.
Saturday, June 13
Dowagiac Family Reach-Out Day, a citywide carnival at the Northwest Park soccer fields. The event sponsored by ACTION (Dowagiac Ministerial Association) is "absolutely free to everyone. "We plan to raise money through donations from our local businesses and fellow churches," which will set up booths at no cost to them, according to the Rev. James Gibson, Victory Tabernacle youth pastor. "The purpose of this day is to join families together for a safe, exciting and fun-filled day." Activities include four, large inflatable games, such as a bounce house and a 25-foot slide, small carnival games, a dunk tank and free food, such as hot dogs, chips and drinks. They plan to have clowns and animal characters and a disc jockey to play music and to make any necessary announcements.
Sunday, June 14
6 p.m. – Silver Creek United Methodist Church strawberry social. They will be serving the season's best strawberries, picked fresh from local growers. Please plan to join them for this delicious treat, including shortcake, ice cream, whipped cream and beverage. They will put it together just the way you like it. The little white church is located at 31994 Middle Crossing at the corner of Garrett Road. Call 782-7061.
Monday, June 15
5:45 p.m. – President Randy Cuthbert called a special Dowagiac Board of Education meeting at Dowagiac Middle School, 57072 Riverside Drive. Purpose of the meeting is an expulsion hearing for a Union High School ninth grade student.
Saturday, June 20
8 a.m. – Boy Scout Troop 563 of Dowagiac newspaper/aluminum can drive until noon in the parking lot of Holy Maternity of Mary Catholic Church, 210 N. Front St. Boy Scouts will be on hand to help unload newspapers and cans. Please, no magazines.
