Lost GOP not totally blameless for ‘socialist regime’

To the editor:
Margaret Thatcher once observed that the problem with socialism is that it soon runs out of everyone else's money. It is the biggest threat to economic freedom and prosperity of any nation that thinks they're getting something for nothing.
And yet we have just elected our first socialist president to complement the far-left Congress that was first seated in 2007. As a result of the last elections, the socialist far-left under Obama and Pelosi now exercise full executive and legislative control of our government. This is a frightening position for the United States of America to be in.
The first two months or so of the Obama presidency have shown him to be seriously committed to fulfilling his socialist agenda. He is an effective speaker with what has turned out to be a large cult following.
Obama was elected because of our economic collapse during the last days of the Bush administration. The nation has also been deluged with an eight-year vilification of George Bush by the far left which was largely unanswered. The herd mentality caught on, and many voters were convinced that Bush and the Republicans were real villains. And so, any alternative was better than the Republican Party.
We are now stuck with a government that has quickly spent us into bankruptcy, while continuing to increase economic control over all aspects of our lives. The result of this madness will inevitably be hyper-inflation, a diminution of living for the future – very probably the near future. These results are inevitable due to the accelerated bankruptcy of our monetary system.
While the new socialist regime is currently in control of this madness, we can't say that the Republican Party is totally without blame.
The Republican Party has lost its way as the standard-bearer of fiscal responsibility and leadership. The party is rudderless, with few who can effectively promote free enterprise, personal initiative instead of government subsidy and high moral and ethical standards. And too many are willing to accept the social philosophies of this current regime, in the hope that compromising their values will lead to some crumbs of reward.
Obama is a socialist. He has no experience at leading anything. His friends and associates are and have been thugs (Reznick), terrorists (Ayers), racists (Pfleger, Wright) and tax scofflaws (Daschle, Geithner and many others). He is a product of the Chicago machine. What are his positives? I can't find any, except being a smooth talker.
The Republican Party had better find its ways and prepare true qualified conservative leaders for the battles of 2010 and 2012. The answer is not a third party that wold split the conservative vote. The answer is renewed leadership and a true call for return to the principles that have made America great.
This is a challenge for the ideological path that will guide America in the 21st century. It is a war for the economic and political hearts and minds of our citizens.
I cannot believe that our country will become the Union of Socialist States of America. We all deserve far more than that. But it is up to our citizen voters. I pray for my country, and will never stop standing up for individual liberty and economic freedom from government.
