To the Editor:
As I sit and observe the debate over the current economic problem and how to correct it, it amazes me how not once have I heard mentioned the real issue at stake here. Even sadder, it is the one real core issue that we fought our revolution over and have defended our way of life for ever since. It is our independence. We were built as a nation that provided free choice to pursue our dreams and we had the right to succeed or fail, as our abilities would provide. That is the very center of what was provided for us by our founding fathers and it was our charge to defend it. Now I find that I live in a nation that no longer looks in the mirror first for solutions but to its government for all of its solutions. From business to the individual we now find it acceptable to look to government first for help and are willing to slowly relinquish our freedoms through all of the strings attached. To pursue our dreams unbridled by government oversight is what made our nation a destination for people worldwide for decades. We the people have brought this on ourselves and I pray to God that we come to our senses before "We The People" becomes a phrase of a bygone era.
