COLOMA – The surging Cassopolis girls' basketball team remained just a game behind Lakeland Conference leading Buchanan following its 44-37 win over host Coloma Friday night.
The Lady Rangers (7-5, 7-2 Lakeland) were able to stay in front of the Comets most of the night, but never able to pull away.
Cassopolis grabbed an 8-6 lead after one period of play and remained in front by a basket at the half, 20-18.
The Lady Rangers opened up a seven-point lead by the end of the third quarter by outscoring the Lady comets 15-10 in the period.
Both teams scored nine points in the final eight minutes.
Taira Williams once again led the Lady Rangers as she tossed in 15 points. Damonica Kelly finished with nine points, while Sasha Lanier and Tiffany Williams both added six.
Lindsey Cade and Julie Timm led Coloma with 16 and 12 points respectively.

The Cassopolis girls' varsity basketball team improved to 9-5 Monday night with a 55-41 non-league win over visiting Centreville.
Damonica Kelly led a balanced attack wtih 18 points, while Tiffany and Taira Williams scored 13 and 10 points respectively.
