Talks should be private

To the editor:
Today I had occasion to be at the law and courts building. While sitting in the public area I was appalled at what I heard.
A lawyer and one of the prosecutors was discussing a pending court case, including evidence to be presented. I wasn't the only one privy to this conversation as there were four other people sitting there.
We were all upset that this was going on. There was no attempt to speak in hushed tones, no pretense of a private conversation. Had we been the defendants in the case being discussed we would have known what to expect and prepare accordingly. Had we been prospective jurors we would have had a preview of evidence.
To those of us sitting there it was not possible to escape the conversation as we were there for court appointments.
There are offices, conference rooms and I'm sure other private areas where the lawyers could have gone for their discussion. This, to me, showed a total lack of professionalism. I hope and pray this is not how all cases are handled and that this was a momentary lapse of judgement by these two. If not I would think the defendants would have cause to change their case to another county.
