Big third quarter leads Coloma to victory

EDWARDSBURG – A 31-point third quarter helped lift visiting Coloma to a 73-67 Lakeland Conference victory Tuesday night.
The Comets trailed 32-25 at halftime before exploding for 31 points in the third period.
Edwardsburg was outscored by 11 points in the pivotal third quarter and trailed by four (56-52) heading into the final stanza.
The two teams played to a near standoff in the final eight minutes, which allowed Coloma to get away with a six-point victory.
The Comets got off to a fast start in the contest as it outscored the Eddies (4-3, 1-2 Lakeland) 18-10 in the first quarter.
Coloma trailed the Eddies by six at the break following a 22-7 scoring advantage for Edwardsburg.
Alex Roman and Christian Piotrowski combined for 44 of the Comets' 73 points. Roman lead all scorers with 24 points. Piotrowski finished with 20. Chris Dew also reached double digits with 11 points.
The Eddies were paced by Brian Sevison's 23 points. Jake Harroff added 19 points and Nick Muir 10. Zak Eggleston had nine points.
The Eddies are back in action on Thursday night as they host cross-county rival Cassopolis in a Lakeland Conference tilt.
Tip-off is set for approximately 7:30 p.m.

BERRIEN SPRINGS – A big second quarter helped host Berrien Springs square its record at 4-4 Tuesday night.
The Shamrocks outscored Buchanan 18-2 in the second quarter on their way to a 46-38 Lakeland Conference victory.
The win improved Berrien Springs' record to 4-4 overall and 2-2 in the league.
The Shamrocks led 13-10 after eight minutes of action but scored 18 points in the second quarter to increase its advantage to 31-12 at the intermission.
The Bucks (3-2, 2-2 Lakeland) tried to get back into the contest in the third quarter as they held a 14-3 scoring advantage to cut the lead to 34-26 heading into the final frame.
The Shamrocks and Bucks both netted 12 points in the fourth quarter.
Greg Toliver of Berrien Springs led all scorers with 22 points.
The Shamrocks also got 12 points from Matt Little.
Derek Anglero's 17 points led Buchanan.
Clinton Orr finished with 13 points and Richie Reed four.
The Bucks remain on the road Thursday night as they travel to Bridgman for a key Lakeland Conference clash.
