To the editor:
On behalf of the Dowagiac Police and Fire Departments, I would like to thank Dowagiac Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 1855 and Pamida for their generous contributions of time, talent and resources to the annual "Shop with a Cop" program.
In addition to the monetary donations of $1,000 by the VFW, $750 by Pamida and the additional shopping discount offered by the store, VFW members and store personnel organized and assisted in the entire process. It is always an honor for local emergency responders to team up with community organizations and businesses to serve the Dowagiac community.
The "Shop with a Cop" program is particularly rewarding for both recipients and those who have the privilege to accompany the children on their shopping trip.
Each of the children was able to select approximately $200 worth of merchandise.
Once shopping was complete, firefighters and police officers assisted the 10 children in wrapping the gifts for their family members.
Thanks to the generosity of the Dowagiac VFW and Pamida, 10 local families will have a brighter holiday season.
We wish you a holiday filled with memorable celebrations with family and friends and a healthy, safe and secure 2009 knowing that the Dowagiac Police and Fire Departments are positioned to serve with you in the coming year.
