Margaret A. Brant, 59, of Barron Lake Road, Niles, died at 1 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, 2008, at her home, following an extended illness.
The family is gathering privately for services.
There will be no visitation.
She was born on Dec. 24, 1948, in South Bend, Ind., to Joseph Francis Freund and Ellen Maleary Freund. She lived in Niles most of her life.
She owned and operated the former Lake Street Watering Hole, Niles.
She participated in the Toys for Tots program, as well as other efforts to give back to her community. She enjoyed yardwork and was proud of the appearance of her lawn and flowerbeds.
Her surviving family includes sons, John H. (Sonya Groenwoud) Brant of Berrien Center and Joseph Brant of Anchorage, Alaska; a daughter, Tammy (Kenton Chapman) Brant of Niles; grandchildren, John Allen Brant, James Lanier Brant, Conner Milliken, Nicole Marie Brant, Connie Ann Brant; great-grandchildren, Renee, Collin and Kaylin and a brother, J. Robert Freund, of South Bend, Ind.
Arrangements were by Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles.
