CASSOPOLIS – Cass County Prosecutor Victor Fitz endorses Michigan Supreme Court Chief Justice Cliff Taylor in his bid for re-election to the Michigan Supreme Court.
Fitz said, "Protecting victims and the public is a critical concern. It is the central reason why I have remained in prosecution for the past quarter of a century. It is essential that the public be properly protected from murderers, rapists and other serious criminals.
"Over the past 25 years in prosecution I have seen what happens when we have Supreme Court justices who let murderers and other serious criminals out on hyper-technicalities.
"Since Taylor has taken over as chief justice, our Supreme Court has focused on following the criminal law given to us by our elected legislators and not making up laws from the bench which seem to give undue sympathy to hardened and vicious criminals.
"Taylor makes sure that our Supreme Court does not brush away legislative decisions and make criminal laws from the bench. Taylor has made our criminal justice system more consistent and certain.
"And we are safer for it," Fitz said.
Fitz noted that since Taylor took the top position on Michigan's highest court that criminals are no longer getting out on unfair technicalities.
"There appears to be a far greater degree of finality to criminal convictions under Taylor's leadership on the court."
Fitz indicated that "a vote for Taylor is a vote to protect your family and community from crime."
