Niles District Library has activities planned for children

NILES – The Niles District Library has many fun activities planned for youngsters in November.
On Nov. 1 and 15, the Chess Club will meet for challenging games and learning experiences. These Saturday morning sessions are from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and are designed for children and adults.
Whether the five little monkeys jump on the bed, wash the car or play hide and seek, they are sure to bring a smile to your face at Evening Storytime, Nov. 13 at 6:30 p.m. Come prepared to have a barrel of fun and take home crafts to extend the monkey business.
Help elect a president of the Children's Department. Cast your ballot for Arthur, the Cat in the Hat, Clifford, Curious George or Madeline during the month of November.
The winner will have a big display in their honor in December. Let's see who is most popular.
Two Thanksgiving programs will help expand your talents. During the month of November, submit a short story or poem in our "I Am Plymouth Rock" writing contest. The winner will get a bag of books. Get some ideas for your story at our "Let's Learn about the First Thanksgiving" program on Nov. 15 at 1 p.m. Included will be crafts, stories, a do-it-yourself play and a few surprises.
Grass weaving will be a fun experience at Jr. Garden Club on Nov. 8 at 1 p.m. the Jr. Garden Club members will learn how to weave natural grasses. They will also get ideas so they can enter the Smokey the Bear Poster contest which is nation wide. This growing group has name badges with beads for every meeting they attend and orange t-shirts to wear at the meetings.
Our special reading program, Books Get My Vote, will start on Nov. 1 and end Nov. 30. To enter the raffle for bags of books and other surprises, simply fill out a ticket for every book you read in November. The person who reads book number 400 gets to give Ms. Darlene a pie in the face. On our information table are many lists of good books, pick up a list and start reading.
Preschoolers will visit the barn during storytimes. Clucks, oinks and moo's will be heard in November as the preschoolers learn about barnyard animals. Every Wednesday at 9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m., and 1:30 p.m. stories will be read, coloring pages will be handed out and little hands will be stamped with their farm friends. Related books will be available for check out.
Will our little Squigglers see a deer, squirrel, rabbit or a raccoon in the woods? One thing is sure: our lapsit kids will have fun singing, "Bluebird, Bluebird," playing in the band and learning the alphabet every Wednesday at 10 or 11 a.m.
Parents are encouraged to meet and mingle with other moms and dads while the youngsters play together.
