Mrs. Phyllis J. Kasler, 79, of Topinabee Road, Niles, died at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, 2008 at her home following an extended illness.
She was born on April 8, 1929 in Belleville to Cleveland and Doris (Vincent) Roe, and graduated from Belleville High School in 1946 as Valedictorian.
In 1950, she graduated from Albion College as a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
On Dec. 23, 1950 in Belleville she married William K. Kasler, D.D.S. Phyllis began teaching home economics in the Detroit Public Schools, and after she and Dr. Kasler moved to Niles in 1953, she continued as a substitute teacher.
As her husband' s practice increased, she began assisting him as office manager, and continued to do so through two generations.
Mrs. Kasler was a member of the Niles Service League, and member and Past President of the Niles Garden Club.
She enjoyed playing bridge, and playing league golf at Orchard Hills, but her greatest joy was caring for her family and entertaining at home. She will be well remembered for her smile and good nature.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, William K. Kasler, D.D.S. on April 9, 1997. She was also preceded in death by their son, Scott H. Kasler, D.D.S. on March 27, 2008, and by her sister, Helen Stokes in January of 2008.
Surviving family includes her daughter, Kathleen (&Michael) Keller of Lake Mary, Florida.
The family and friends of Phyllis Kasler are gathering privately in Phyllis' garden with the Rev. William Melody of Notre Dame, Ind. Contributions in memory of Phyllis may be made to the Michigan West Highland Terrier Rescue Association.
