SMC classes start Sept. 2

In his president's report Tuesday, Dr. David Mathews reported that Southwestern Michigan College's first day of classes will be Tuesday, Sept. 2.
He also reported that SMC has been chosen as the host site for next year's state meeting for occupational deans to be held in June 2009.
The meeting will be sponsored by Certiport.
Last week, 27 middle school students from Cass County participated in a CSI Academy on the Dowagiac campus.
The three-day event was hosted by SMC in collaboration with Educational Talent Search, Dowagiac Police Department, Cass County Sheriff's Office, Cass County Courts, Cass County Council on Aging and Pamida. The program was to give students insight and hands-on expierence to the criminal justice system from the initial call of a crime to adjudication in court.
President Mathews also updated trustees on recent and upcoming events.
The Museum at Southwestern Michigan College will host the last of its annual Brown Bag Lunch Series on Wednesday, Aug. 20 and Aug. 27, at 12:05 p.m. in the Upton Room at the museum. This year's theme is "the American presidency." The documentary featured for August is entitled "The American Experience: FDR, The Story of Franklin Roosevelt."
Bring your lunch. The museum will provide beverages and cookies.
