NILES – Firefighters in Niles Township battle more than fires. On Friday, Aug. 22, at the Niles intersection of Ontario Road and 13th Street from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., firefighters from the International Association of Firefighters Local No. 2428 will team up with the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) to "fill the boot." These "Boot Drives" offer the community a chance to donate money that will be used in the battle against neuromuscular diseases.
Last year, Niles firefighters raised $1,318. This year, with support from the community, they hope to surpass that figure.
The proceeds collected from the Niles Boot Drive will aid local children and adults affected by neuromuscular diseases by providing wheelchairs, leg braces, clinic visits, support groups, and a chance for children to attend the local MDA camp, held at Sherman Lake YMCA in Augusta.
For over 54 years, firefighters and MDA have partnered to fight neuromuscular disease. MDA applauds these heroes, who not only battle flames, but muscular dystrophy. Please save your spare change and help "fill a boot" on Friday, Aug. 22 to make a difference.
