Niles takes Junior title with five-inning win

NILES – The Niles Junior All-Stars won the District 15 championship Wednesday night with a convincing 13-2 victory in five innings over Vicksburg.
The win propels Niles into the Sectional, which will be played on Saturday at Eastwood Little League in Kalamazoo.
Niles will take on the District 2 champion – Alamo or South Portage.
The District 2 championship will be decided tonight.
Evan Zimmerman picked up the victory with Cody Beers coming on in the fourth inning and Matthew McLaughlin and Austin Searles pitching the fifth inning.
Offensively for Niles, Brian Exner had two hits, while McLaughlin doubled,
Logan Harpeneau, Beers and Zimmerman all had hits.
Senior All-Stars
The Niles Senior All-Stars will open up District 15 play tonight against Three Rivers.
The game is scheduled to begin 6 p.m. in Vicksburg. The winner advances
Lakeshore Invitational
Action continued in the Lakeshore Invitational on Wednesday despite bad weather.
In Little League B play, North Lincoln defeated Dowagiac 13-3.
Over in Minor League B action, Brandywine defeated Coloma 4-3, while Buchanan lost to St. Joseph 10-6.
Howard Township 2 blanked Brandywine 4-0 in Peanut League B, while in Minor League A it was the Brandywine 10s over Berrien Springs, 11-0.
On Tuesday, Dowagiac A and Dowagiac B were both defeated in Little League B action.
Lakeshore defeated Dowagiac A 7-4, while Benton Harbor topped Dowagiac B, 5-1.
In Little League A play it was Lakeshore defeating Howard Township 10-3.
Brandywine doubled up Buchanan 16-8 in a Minor League B contest and Lakeshore White edged Dowagiac 13-11.
Over in Peanut League A it was Osceola, Ind. over Dowagiac 15-5.
The tournament continues tonight with a full slate of games. and continues through Sunday.
