All-Stars win state crown

MT. CLEMENS – The Howard Township 12-year-old All-Stars captured the Cal Ripken Baseball State Tournament championship over the weekend.
Howard Township, which will not be able to attend the regional due to scheduling conflicts, defeated Brandywine, Milford and Benton Harbor twice.
The All-Stars opened the tournament with an 8-2 victory over Brandywine and then knocked off Milford 13-1.
Howard Township defeated Benton Harbor 7-5 and then 2-1 in the championship game.
The team consists of Lane Wells, Stuart Nielsen, Landon Kulwicki, Cole Wiker, Nick Borkowski and Taylor Weldy, Tate Brawley, Tate Rudlaff, Matt Miller, Liam Gritton and Brad Miller. The team is coached by Steve Brown, Chris Brawley, Roger Kulwicki and Jeff Rudlaff.
The 12-year-old All-Stars are the second Howard Township team to win a state title this summer.
