LMC hosting a free summer concert

BENTON TOWNSHIP – The Lake Michigan College Music Department will present a Summer Choral Concert at the LMC Mendel Center Hanson Theatre on Thursday, July 24, at 7 p.m. This concert is free and open to the public.
The program, featuring the LMC Summer Choir, will highlight American Folk music including "Cindy," "Old Joe Clark," "Arkansas Traveler," "Shenandoah," "The Water is Wide," and "Hard Times Come Again No More," which is a new arrangement commissioned by the LMC Summer Choir.
The LMC Summer Choir is composed of students and community members from throughout the Southwest Michigan area. The concert will feature solos and a quartet by choir members Jessica Agens and Loretta Bond (Benton Harbor), Linda Derbas (Galien), Ben Farac (Coloma), Barb Frank (Benton Harbor), Laura Gomez (Coloma), Daniel Hanson (Stevensville), Ann Marie Marlow (St. Joseph), Donna Newman (Buchanan), Carol Orlaske (St. Joseph) and Alan Selvidge (Coloma).
The Lake Michigan College Summer Choir is directed by Rebecca Derbas-Selvidge, an alumnus of the LMC Music Department who participated in Voices LMC Chamber Choir, Concert Choir, Jazz Band and LMC theatre. She is currently finishing her Bachelor of Music Education choral degree at Western Michigan University where she performs with the University Chorale and is a member of WMU's award-winning jazz ensemble Gold Company. She holds a certificate from the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City (1998) and has directed various cabaret performances in the area including, "Evening with the Master" and "Broadway on a Summer's Night."
The LMC Mendel Center is located on the College's Napier Avenue Campus.
