NILES – At 2:44 p.m. on Wednesday, June 11, the Berrien County Sheriff's Department responded to a call of an accident at South 11th Street and Bertrand in Niles Township.
Niles Township Fire Department and Southwestern Michigan Community Ambulance Service was also on scene.
Officer Justin Hopkins, who responded to the call, stated that the operator of Chevy made vehicle was traveling southbound on South 11th Street. The driver was talking on a cell phone and allegedly ran a red light, colliding with a Dodge made vehicle, which apparently had a green light.
Hopkins reported that he believed all involved in the accident experienced only minor injuries with minor damages done to the Dodge vehicle and a possible totaling of the Chevy vehicle.
