A word of thanks from a dad

To the editor:
After reading the wonderful story in the Saturday, May 24 edition of the Daily Star, I just had to write a short note of thanks to the Project Graduation Committee for their tireless efforts for this year's event!
Year after year they strive to bring our graduates a positive, safe and memorable experience as our children embark on the next chapter of their lives. I have had two of my own children take part in "PG" in the past, and look forward to the possibility of my other three doing the same. However, in light of that hope, I just want to offer a suggestion in response to some of the remarks made by this year's chairman, Mrs. Jane Branstatter.
On page two of the story she is quoted as saying, "Trust is big, explaining that those who know what's being done, don't tell and those who don't know, trust that what money is being used for (sic) the event is in good hands." She went on to say, "…they (donors) trust not to ask for details when donating, and we're proud of that."
I know that as a pastor, trust is indeed a priceless commodity, and that is why for all events that take place in the name of our church, we provide full agenda disclosures, information release and liability forms, etc., both to protect the children as well as the church. In this day of heightened concerns over the security of our students, any conscientious parent or sponsor should be allowed to ask where their children will be taken; before the event takes place.
I believe that the trust enjoyed by the "PG" committee should be reciprocated to each parent or sponsor (to not "spoil the surprise" for the kids) so that each one can make an intelligent, informed decision about their own participation or investment in each year's event.
For instance, a quick look at the "Club 112" website would have been very helpful to anyone involved. Again, thanks to the hardworking committee! Know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.
A concerned dad, pastor, and past sponsor,
Niles
