Open seats on County Board

ST. JOSEPH – The Berrien County Board of Commissioners has announced that the following boards or commissions have positions with terms expiring or have vacancies and are seeking volunteers who would like to serve. The County Board has a procedure that allows for other County citizens to apply for positions on boards or commissions even though a current board member whose term is expiring may re-apply and seek re-appointment. Due to the recent expansion of the Berrien County Road Commission, there are two vacancies available as well as one position that has a term expiring at the end of the year. The Berrien County Road Commission's mission is to maintain a county road system that is safe and convenient for public travel. The Road Commission is responsible for 1,473 miles of county roads which lie outside incorporated cities and villages. The board meets every other Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. at the Road Commission office at 2860 E. Napier Ave., Benton Harbor. The terms are for six years.
The Lakeshore Coordinating Council has two positions on the Advisory Committee which are vacant. The Committee is made up of representation from public and private treatment and prevention programs and organizations; client or patient groups or individuals who have been directly served by substance abuse treatment rehabilitation or prevention programs or organizations; or the community at large, including civic organizations, business, labor, etc. The term is for two years and the meetings are held on the 1st Friday of each month at 9:00 a.m.
The Solid Waste Planning Committee has a vacancy for someone involved in an environmental interest group. The general purpose of the committee is to assist in the preparation of the County Solid Waste Management Plan by providing advice and consultation and to be active in the updating of the plan. Currently the committee is not meeting at all but it is necessary to keep the board intact. The term for the vacancy is for two years.
