Fredrick Knauf, 96, of East Winn Road, Niles, died at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2008, at Lakeland Community Hospital, Niles, following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 24, at the Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles, with the Rev. Kyle Gardner officiating.
The family will gather privately next week for committal rites at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens, Niles.
The family will receive friends and relatives beginning at 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
He was born on Oct. 23, 1911, in Niles, to Fredrick and Mary (Exner) Knauf, and had lived in Niles all of his life.
He was employed for 49 years at Garden City Fan, Niles, retiring in 1983.
He was a member of Saint John's United Church of Christ, Niles and enjoyed spending time with his family.
On March 23, 1929, in Plymouth, Ind., he married Iva Mildred Sloop. She died on Nov. 12, 1998, just a few months short of celebrating the 70th anniversary of their wedding.
He was also preceded in death by three daughters, Iva Jean Knauf, who died in infancy, Dolores Stevenson, who died in 1957 and Phyllis J. Knauf, who died in 2002.
Surviving family includes a son, Ken (Sandra) Knauf of Niles; a daughter, Judy Tennison of Simpsonville, S.C.; grandchildren, Kari (Mike) Reed, Penny Flannery, Clifford Stevenson and Debbie (Gary) Triollo; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild and a brother, Richard Knauf, Sr.
Memorial contributions may be made to Saint John's United Church of Christ.
