Vikings baseball team sweeps Bridgman

BRIDGMAN – The Niles varsity baseball team swept a non-conference doubleheader from host Bridgman on Thursday.
The No. 6 ranked Vikings won the first game 14-4 and then took the shortened second game 5-1. The nightcap was called due to darkness.
Jake Ferguson picked up the victory in the first game with relief help from Taylor Robson.
Niles finished with 11 hits, including a pair of doubles from Alex Welch and a triple by Mikie Simpson. D.J. Wolnik and Dan Holland also had doubles.
Wolnik was 3-for-5 with two singles and three RBIs, while Welch and Alec Taylor both had two hits. Welch finished with four RBIs.
In the second game, Billy Siderits went the distance to earn the victory.
Niles finished with five hits in the second game, led by Taylor with a triple.
Andrew Brawley and Welch both doubled.
"Our hitting is improving," Niles coach Mike Vota said. "I am happy with the way the team approaches the games. We hustled for 12 innings."
