BUCHANAN – Even in a lopsided defeat, a 6-0 loss to Lakeshore, Buchanan's girls varsity soccer coach Chris Froelich was able to find positive things to take from the game.
"That was a very, very good opponent and a great soccer history there in a Lakeshore team," Froelich said of the visiting Lady Lancers. "They didn't quit. They were shooting all day long and we kept stepping to the ball and we did have some offensive push which is really good.
"Our good players were making some plays and doing some good things. I was really happy with the way we played. A lot of the stuff we worked on, they are showing on the field which you like to see. That was a really good match up to have for us, we have two big conference matches next week with another conference game the next week, so you like to play a Lakeshore in building up to big conference competition," he added.
The speedy Lancer senior forward, Danni Womeldorf, scored four of the the six goals and had the assists on the other two goals. Womeldorf's first goal came in the first three minutes of the game. Lakeshore took a two goal lead into the half on Womeldorf's second score of the afternoon at the 22:32 mark.
"We had some goals that we had set before the game and a lot of those we can wipe off the board because we did it and we did it well against good competition. You can say we did three more things that we did well today and now we can pick three more and work on those and just keep continuing to improve which is all you can ask for and they did very well on that today," Froelich said.
Lakeshore finished the afternoon with 18 shots on goal with Shelby Welbaum making 11 saves for the Lady Bucks. Buchanan finished the day with eight shots on goal.
