DOWAGIAC – One of the top teams in the Wolverine Conference came to Dowagiac on Wednesday and proved why.
Plainwell blanked Dowagiac 8-0 in a game that was halted less than two minutes into the second half.
The Lady Trojans were able to control the match throughout and kept Dowagiac in its own end of the field pretty much the entire contest.
"Plainwell is a very talented team from front to back," Dowagiac coach Mike Williams said. "They brought their A game and kept us on our heels and playing defense the majority of the game. They were able to finish four corner kicks off headers.
"Despite the score, we played better than we did the last two weeks, but this is the most talented team we will play this year," he added.
The Chieftains did tighten up defensively over the final 12 minutes of the first half and limited the Lady Trojans to just a pair of goals.
Dowagiac's match on Friday against St. Joseph has been canceled.
The Chieftains will return to action on Monday when they travel to Richmond to take on Gull Lake.
The Dowagiac junior varsity soccer team's match was also ended by the mercy rule as Plainwell posted a win on Wednesday afternoon.
