George Edwin Kiggins / 1920 -2008

George Edwin Kiggins, 87, of Niles, died at Riveridge Manor on Tuesday, April 29, 2008, with his family by his side.
In keeping with his wishes he has been cremated.
He was born on Oct. 7, 1920, to the late George and Cora Bell (Thacher) Kiggins in Dowagiac. He was one of five children in the Kiggins household.
After high school he enlisted in the United States Army. He proudly served his country during World War II in the Pacific, serving in the Gilbert Islands and the Battle for Iwo Jima.
On Aug. 23, 1946, George wed the love of his life, Helen Langel. After his tour of duty was over George became a city bus driver for the City of South Bend for nearly 20 years.
He then worked for National Standard, where he retired after 25 years of dedicated service.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Winifred Juhasz and brother, William Kiggins.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 62 years, Helen; son, Ronald "Ron" (Linda "Lin") Kiggins of Niles;; grandson, Christopher Kiggins of St. Louis, Mo. and brothers, Joseph ("Kitty") Kiggins of Niles and Robert (Sallie) Kiggins of Tuscon, Ariz.

The family would like to make a special thanks to the doctors and nurses at Memorial Hospital and Riveridge Manor along with long time neighbor Kathleen "Katie" Burton of Niles.
