Eddies thinclads split with Bobcats

Defending Lakeland Conference champion Brandywine got its season off to a good start on Tuesday by defeating host Edwardsburg.
The Bobcat boys' track team nipped the Eddies 71-66.
In the girl's portion of the meet, Edwardsburg picked up a 106-17 win over Brandywine.
Taking first place for the Bobcat boys' track team as individuals were Bryton Hutchings in the pole vault (11-feet), Dan Eaglebarger in the shot put (40-4.5), Brett Gilpin in the 110-meter high hurdles (11.3), Elliott Richards in the 1,600-meters (5:26.8) and Caleb Frazier in both the 100- (11.3) and 400-meters (55.1).
Brandywine also won the 800- and the 400-meter relays.
The 800-meter relay team of Gilpin, Joel Perry, Frazier and Josh Benjamin were clocked at 1:39.2. The 400-meter relay team, which consisted of Perry, Chris Ott, Benjamin and Gilpin, ran a time of 47.5.
First place efforts for the Eddies came from Brent Shuttleworth in the high jump (6-0), Nathan Joiner in the discus (94-5), Ahrin Lemacks in the long jump (20-2.5) and the 200-meters (23.8), Brian Sevison in the 300-meter hurdles (42.9), Zach Eggleston in the 800-meters (2:21.1) and Devin Bywaters in the 3,200-meters (11:49.9).
Edwardsburg won both distance relays.
The Eddies ran a time of 9:44.3 in the 3,200 relay and 3:46.95 in the 1,600 relay.
The 3,200-meter team consisted of Eggleston, Reck, Bywaters and Albrecht. The 1,600-meter squad was made up of Steinke, Sevision, Lemacks and Eggleston.
Brandywine did not have a single first place finish in the girl's half of the meet.
Finishing second for the Lady Bobcats were Stephanie Beadle in the high jump (4-7), Dawn Smith in the shot put (29-6), Audrey Simmons in the long jump (12-9) and Ashley Harrell in the 3,200-meters (14:41.6).
Lanie Ford, Brooklyn Smith and Erin Eggleston were all double winners as individuals.
Ford won the shot put (32-0) and discus (86-0), while Eggleston captured the 100-meter hurdles (17.5) and 300-meter hurdles (51.5).
Smith won the 100- (13.91) and 200-meters (29.8).
Also picking up wins for the Lady Eddies were Jenna Martin in the high jump (4-8), Stephanie Koontz in the long jump (15-7), Ellen Miller in the 1,600-meters (6:33.97), Kim Billings in the 400-meters (1:11.1), Kathy Stewart in the 800-meters (2:58.3) and Kaitlyn Buzalski in the 3,200-meters (13:42.9).
Edwardsburg captured all four relay events.
The Lady Eddies won the 3,200-meters in a time of 11:28.7. That team consisted of Buzalski, Brubacher, Billings and Miller.
In the 800-meters, the unit of Koontz, Jackson, Eggleston and Ward posted a time of 1:58.9.
The 400-meter relay team of Jackson, Ward, Smith and Martin were clocked at 57.6, while the 1,600-meter relay squad of Brubacher, Koontz, Miller and Eggleston posted a time of 4:43.2.
